ARK-LA-TEX award-winning children’s author Tom C. Greer moves back to Texarkana after eleven years in Dallas, TX and is ready to take his character, Honey, to the next level!!
TEXARKANA, Texas — Tom C. Greer is making big plans for his beloved pet, Honey, who is the main character in his three children’s books!! The award-winning children’s author, who was born and grew up in Texarkana, recently moved back home to help support his elderly parents and to begin building what he hopes to be a company that will take Honey not only across the nation, but the world.
Greer currently has three titles about his beloved pet, Honey, and her adventures in the Texarkana and Wake Village area. The stories are all based on true events that Honey experienced and told as her memoirs. He has visited schools in Texas and Arkansas with great success and hopes to do more events in the ARK-LA-TEX since moving back home.
In the first title, A New Home for Honey, the pet introduces herself as a thirteen-year-old poodle who was very scared when Tommy Smith came to purchase her from an elderly lady on the south side of town. But once she saw her new home (Greer’s mom’s house in Wake Village), she got very excited. This book was the recipient of three Parent to Parent Adding Wisdom Awards in 2006. Greer followed with an even more popular title in 2007 with the release of Honey’s Peanut Butter Adventure, in which Honey tells of a fond memory of sneaking into the cabinets at Tommy’s mom’s house and getting some of her favorite treat — peanut butter!! Children love reading the story and seeing the colorful illustrations of Laurie Faust that depict an exact replication of the kitchen where the action took place. In the summer of 2008, Honey Visits Grandpa Smith hit the market and the laughs just kept on coming. In this story, Tommy takes Honey to visit his dad, an elderly man who enjoys adventures himself, and who often ends up bringing home lots of “treasures” that get put in a variety of storage buildings in his yard.
Having been in public education for over sixteen years, as a teacher, and central office administrator, Greer values education and knows what students are interested in when it comes to reading. Pets and animals are high on the list of favorites which makes his books very appealing!
In looking to the future of his books, Greer is currently working on a manual that includes twelve lessons for teachers to use that incorporate one of his books into the lesson. Geared to students from Pre-K through about 3rd-4th grade, the lessons include learning standards, concepts, objectives of the lesson, materials and resources, and a step-by-step guide for introducing the lesson, building interest, content development, closure, assessment, and enrichment.
“As an educator myself, I wanted to create a tool for teachers to use that supports objectives that should be taught in the classroom. The lessons are not identified by any one state’s measurement device, such as TEKS, in Texas, but teachers from any state could correlate the objectives to their own state’s standards,” said Tom C. Greer.
At present, the plan is to package the manual, once completed, with a paperback copy of each of the three books in the Honey series to sell to educators, school districts, and interested individuals. While the price has not been established just yet, Greer says that it will be very affordable and well worth the money because of the quality of the lessons and the high interest level it will have with students.
Greer is also currently scheduling free author visits at schools in the ARK-LA-TEX if students are allowed to purchase books following his presentation. Visit www.weepingwillowpublishing.com for more information about hosting an event with Tom C. Greer and the Honey series.

Second Book in “Honey” series now available
Second title in children’s book series proves there is no limit to what some pets will do to get their favorite snack

DALLAS, Texas — Because of the great success of his first book, A New Home for Honey, Tom C. Greer continues the story of Honey with a second title that is sure to bring tears of laughter to the reader as they go on another amazing adventure with his very special pet.
In Honey’s Peanut Butter Adventure, thirteen year old Honey Smith, a toy poodle, reminisces about sneaking into the cabinets to get a taste of her favorite snack — Peanut Butter! Her family has gone to run errands and she has to come up with a plan to get into the top cupboard where she knows the peanut butter is kept.
Parents and children have all fallen in love with Honey and her memories of fun and exciting adventures that she shares while reminiscing on her younger days. While she has gotten too old to do many things, she fondly remembers when she was younger and led a much more active life.
Honey’s determination to get her favorite snack shows that she is intelligent and does not give up easily when faced with a difficult task. She develops a strategy that is sure to work and puts that plan in motion. Because of her commitment, she sees the fruit (or peanut butter) of her labor and completes her task with some lip-smacking enjoyment!
Author Tom C. Greer is a Dallas, Texas, educator who spent much of his early life in the East Texas town of Texarkana where this story actually takes place. The story and illustrations are based on the real adventures of his pet poodle, Honey. Greer has combined his love of teaching and his love of pets to provide young readers with picture books that will teach them strong lessons while they laugh, and sometimes cry, at the antics of his special pet.
As with the first book, Laurie A. Faust, has illustrated the story using photographs of the actual location of the events in the adventure. She has received much praise for her work in several children’s books and continues to bring her special touch to this title.
